About the Business
This is me, Robin Groothuis. In 2012 I began digitally archiving my family's vast collection of photographs, slides, home movies and videos, cassette tapes, and vinyl, as well as important documents, letters and newspaper clippings. At the time, several friends found out and asked if I could digitize their items as well. As a musician, writer and storyteller, I understand the importance of having these visual and audio memories in preserving our histories. There are so many stories, in my own life and in my family, let alone from generations past, that are just waiting to be recalled and retold. Even the way they were recorded! I'm fascinated with vintage media. I love this work, knowing that every person has a story to discover. My family have had hours of meaningful conversation about things long forgotten. I would love to help you hold on to those stories.
Born in Detroit, I grew up in Michigan, Kansas, Colorado and California in the 70's and 80's, and landed in Grand Rapids, Michigan for college in the late 80s. I've lived in Traverse City, Michigan with my husband, Mike, since 2000 and have worn many hats in that time in addition to family archivist, including raising three now-grown children, working as a professional musician, and running our small family business for 11 years. I work out of my home but travel frequently throughout Northern and West Michigan, preferring meeting in person to pick up and deliver projects. Most of all, I believe in supporting local small businesses, services and artists and will stay connected to that vital community with Save Your Story.
